My name is Loïc, I'm 11 years old and live with my mom, Capucine. My dad left when I was 8 years old. From what I remember and understand, he left with another woman. It was very difficult for my mom, she cried a lot at the time, and me too because he never gave any news. Time passed and things are better now for my mom and me.
We just moved to another city. It was barely 15 days ago. Mom didn't go into detail but I know things weren't going well at her job. By the way, I didn't mention it but she's a nurse. She worked several years in a retirement home. For a while now, she has been saying she wants something else.
This move wasn't easy for me because I had to leave all my group of friends, I even cried. But well, that's life. I will make new friends, I know that. For now, it's holidays, so I don't have many chances to meet people. I know that once school starts, I won't have trouble finding new friends, I'm a pretty sociable boy.
Our new apartment is really better than the old one. Firstly, it's bigger with three bedrooms. It's on the ground floor of a small residence and it has a small garden, which is cool. We were able to get it thanks to a friend of mom's. It's a friend of a friend who was looking for a reliable tenant, not just anyone based on paperwork. My room is also bigger than the old one. We even managed to set up a desk in addition to my wardrobe and bed, and there's still space left. On this desk, I was able to put my computer that used to be in the living room. I'm so happy.
I feel like mom is a bit worried these days. I asked her about it but she said everything was fine. I guess she doesn't want me to worry and prefers to lie to me. I feel like it's because she can't find a job. Before moving, we already didn't have a lot of money: rent, insurance, car, groceries, clothes... Even if I never lacked anything, mom doesn't often treat herself. This move caused a lot of expenses and I imagine she's worried about what could happen if we were left with nothing.
But back to me, things I like to do include playing on the computer and console, cycling, going to the pool, seeing friends, and watching movies on TV. On the console, I play a lot of Fortnite, it's great to keep in touch with my old buddies. We play a round once a day. They tell me what they're up to during the holidays and I tell them about my new life here.
In life, I dream of becoming a doctor, maybe even a surgeon. In any case, I want to work in the medical field, like my mom. She always told me things about her work and how it feels good to help others. Mom explained to me that it's important to work hard at school and I'm striving for that.
